Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
There is a Sunday School song that plays, “Our God is so great, so strong and so mighty. There’s nothing my God cannot do.” Children sing it, often with coordinated dance moves showing off their tiny muscles. Those of us who were raised in the church were continually surrounded by little reminders of the greatness of God.
As you grow older and are faced with the trials of life, this concept is put to the test. Is there really nothing God cannot do? When he claims he is with me in the storms of life, is he serious? In the heat of battle, it is easy to ask these questions.
Joshua 1:9 is there to remind you that wherever you go, the Lord is with you. In times of sorrow, he mourns with you. He is not afraid of your weakness, rather he plans to make it strength! In moments of confusion, do you believe that God can bring clarity? In seasons of fear, is God powerful enough to shield? His power is with you, every step of the way.
Our God is mighty to save. He has a mighty hand and outstretched arm. He is the maker of heaven and earth, and he loves you. He has not, and will not, forsake you. He has the power to meet your needs, and the needs of others.
When you doubt this, remember how the Lord has shown his power not only in your own life, but in the lives of so many who fear him. He parted the Red Sea. He protected David from Saul. He comforted Hagar in the wilderness. The God who has come through for so many is able to do the same for you. Will you trust him?
