You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Life is not promised to be perfect. In fact, Scripture is riddled with faithful followers of Christ who faced severe hardship, stress, and grief. However, when we are putting our trust in the Lord, we indeed have cups that run over. One of the beautiful promises of God is that even when we are at our lowest, he will fill us.
It’s not uncommon for women to read over the word with a cup of coffee or tea. Drinks have a way of giving energy, joy, and warmth. Some of us are even coffee snobs, with our favorite brands and blends. When just the right ingredients are mixed, it really does something magical!
What if you had an unlimited supply of your favorite drink? No more long lines at the coffee shop, no more mishaps from baristas. Your perfect cup, every time you ever want it. Sounds amazing, right?
God promises to do this for us, but in a way that far surpasses coffee or tea. He fills us. We are given the best ingredients: love, joy, peace, patience, self-control. He brings us comfort and hope in times of hardship. He brings blessings beyond what we can ask or think. With God, your cup is always full and the ingredients are of the highest quality imaginable.
Not only does he fill us, he fills us so that we overflow. It’s more than enough! Overflow means that it will run onto something else. When you’re overflowing with the goodness of God, it will affect others. Your friends, family, coworkers...they won’t be able to help but notice how God is filling and filling and filling your cup.
In times of hardship, when you don’t give up, that is a testament of God’s goodness. When you are blessed beyond what you thought possible, your cup is overflowing. Today, you can trust in the Lord’s provision for your life, no matter what your needs are. Sister, your cup overflows.
